The town of Marshfield recently announced the launch of a suite of new services on its new self-service payment kiosk.

The outdoor kiosk allows people to pay for dozens of town services and fees in person while eliminating person-to-person contact amid the pandemic. The kiosk is an initiative of the town’s Offices of the Treasurer Collector, which partnered with CityBase, a provider of government and utility technology and a business unit of GTY Technology Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: GTYH).

“We’re always looking for new ways to make our services more convenient for Marshfield residents, especially in these unique times,” said Patrick Dello Russo Jr., director of finance of the town of Marshfield. “We chose CityBase because their payment technology is fast and intuitive for residents to use, and it streamlines back-office processes so our staff can focus on supporting the people of Marshfield.”

The payment kiosk is located outside Marshfield Town Hall, 870 Moraine St., and provides 24/7 service for people paying by cash, check and credit and debit cards. Those paying cash can do so for free, with no service fees.

The town first introduced the payment kiosk in November, allowing residents to pay for real estate taxes, personal property taxes, excise and boat excise taxes and utility bills. Starting this week, customers can now also pay for parking tickets, marriage licenses, birth certificates, dog licenses, beach stickers (which will be available when beach season kicks off this spring), mooring fees and liquor licenses.

“Marshfield is providing a huge convenience to households that want or need to pay their bills in person, by making so many different service payments available for walk-in customers,” said Mike Duffy, CEO and founder of CityBase. “The town of Marshfield is investing in solutions that promote both ease of use and safety for its residents who do not feel comfortable coming into town hall during the reduced office hours. Folks can make a payment and then receive a receipt by text message, email or a paper copy.”

Marshfield was allotted federal CARES Act funds through Plymouth County to implement the kiosk, since it mitigates cash-handling and eliminates person-to-person contact for customers and municipal staff.

Kiosk payments are enabled by a cloud-based solution that integrates to Zobrio, the town’s underlying financial management platform and Softright, the town’s billing system. The integrated technology allows Marshfield to have a completely automated reconciliation process with the treasury and all underlying departments.
