Gov-tech startup CityBase acquired for $160 million
The software company, which helps cities such as Chicago do business with constituents, went looking for funding and found a buyer instead.
CityBase, a Chicago software startup that helps governments connect with the residents and businesses they serve, has been acquired for $160 million by an Austin, Texas-based company.
GTY Technology Holdings, which raised a half-billion dollars nearly two years ago to acquire tech companies in a roll-up, will operate CityBase as a separate unit. It was among six government-tech company acquisitions GTY announced yesterday.
CityBase’s cloud-based software allows government agencies and utilities to stitch together old, disparate computer systems and databases to deliver them via web and mobile portals or kiosks. It has customers in more than 70 markets, including the cities of Chicago, Indianapolis and San Francisco.
